In the summer of 1996 Dean Simon developed a unique process for prepping, roasting, grilling and flash freezing first quality vegetables picked at the peak of flavor. Dean founded SDG Foods and applied his know how to a business dedicated to the development of the best tasting highest quality fresh grilled and roasted vegetables available anywhere. As word spread, demand outpaced production capacity and necessitated a move to a state of the art 60,000 square foot, company owned production facility. SDG quickly became the leading producer of top quality, IQF roasted vegetables in the country. While maintaining the highest flavor and aesthetic commitments, SDG extended the tradition of innovation to industry leading safety and quality control processes.
In 2002, a group of senior foodservice professionals, led by Jeff Heavirland, impressed with the quality and uniqueness of SDG’s offerings, purchased the company with a strong commitment to maintain the same principles of customer satisfaction, flavor, visual appeal and safety that the company was founded on. The partnership re-named the business, "Fresh Grill" in honor of the company’s historical commitment to fresh flavor, innovation and top quality product offerings.
